I Grubbed* True Story

It’s true. I grubbed. I grubbed with 11 strangers.

For months, I’ve had a profile on this new site called Grubwith.us Chicago. It’s a social dining site. Basically they set up the meal, you prepay online, and show up to have dinner with strangers.

Sound scary?
It’s not.

There wasn’t one second where I thought ‘eeek this was a mistake’ – not one second.  And these supposed strangers? Well turns out when you have to just talk, you learn how small the world is, and how you are connected with people in some many different ways.  One girl at the table I follow on Twitter and chat with occasionally, another girl at the table frequents the same tea lounge I do, and than there was this  guy works in the steel industry, an industry I actually do know a little about. Plus another diner attends a travel meetup I’ve also been meaning to check out (now I will).  Top all that off with several people who were willing to share their beer, stories, and didn’t hog all the food - it was a top-notch night.

Did I make BF4E4E? Maybe. Maybe not. But I felt connected. It’s not that I don’t have friends, but I think sometimes it’s easy to go through life without letting other people in. You just keep what you’ve got and never evaluate whether or not that’s a good thing. Well. I’m reevaluating. I’d like 2011 to be a refresh-type-of-year. And as simple as it sounds, I feel like I got a lot out of my one meal grubbed and I plan to get my grub on again soon!
